HP Photocopiers

HP has a great range of photocopiers, or as the company prefers to call them, multi-function printers.

If you are looking for a low cost photocopier that will provide good value for money and your copying and printing requirements are relatively modest, then one of the low to mid-range HP multifunction printers might have all the features you need at a price that you can easily afford.

However if you are looking for a high performance photocopier that will handle large print volumes and print speeds up to 56 pages a minute then one of HP’s high performing Enterprise multi-function printers could be just what you are looking for.

In fact with photocopier prices ranging from just £58 plus VAT right up to £13,412 plus VAT, it seems that HP has just about every price point covered.

Technology

HP photocopiers use one of two technologies. These are branded as OfficeJet multifunction printers (MFP) and LaserJet MFPs. Officejet MFPs use the same kind of ink jet print technology as standard HP ink jet printers while LaserJet MFPs are actually laser printers such as the HP LaserJet P1102W but with the added functionality of photocopying and possibly faxing. The only difference between a LaserJet printer and a laser printer is the name; HP has branded its range of laser printers as LaserJet printers.

While low price ink jet printers in general have a poor reputation for quality and the high cost of ink cartridges, the quality of mid to high price OfficeJet is considerably better, equalling or even bettering that of lower priced LaserJet printers. Deciding which is better for you depends on your print requirements including your print volumes and whether you want black and white or colour. The main advantage of OfficeJet printers is that they offer colour printing at budget prices, while colour laser or LaserJet printers are considerably more expensive.

As an example of this, the HP OfficeJet Pro MFP costs just £74 plus VAT, while the cheapest HP LaserJet printer is the HP Colour LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw which costs £183 plus VAT, though still a low price for a colour laser machine. And when you consider that its features include high print quality, a built-in document feeder and three inch colour LCD display.

Cost of ownership

When deciding which MFP or photocopier to buy, you need to consider more than just the purchase price and print quality. If your volumes are reasonably modest, then a low cost printer will probably suffice, but the cost of each page you print will be considerably more than with a more expensive MFP.

The duty cycle of the printer is also important. The duty cycle is the maximum number of pages per month the MFP can handle, and it is an indication of how robust the printer is. The top of the range HP LaserJet Ent Flow MFP M830 Printer can produce up to 300,000 pages per month with a recommended volume of up to 50,000 pages per month; the modestly priced HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476dw can produce up to 40,000 pages per month with a recommended volume of up to 2,500 pages per month; while the top of the range OfficeJet printer, the HP Officejet Pro X 576 DW can produce up to 80,000 pages per month with a recommended volume of up to 6,000 pages per month.

In the table we compare the features of just a small selection of HP MFP (photocopiers if you prefer) to give you some idea of what is available. However with a total product range of 52 models top choose from, HP is certain to have one to match your requirements whatever your budget.
