Quick overview

Titan Growth is an established player in the SEO and digital marketing scene (est. 2004) with a large roster of happy clients. They'll create high-quality content to convert sales using their industry-insider knowledge.

Pros

Large content creation team

Sales-focused marketing services

PR also available

Cons

Not suitable for tiny companies

You'll need a big budget

Providing content marketing (promoting your business via written content) as well as in-house copywriting, Titan Growth is the stand-out performer in SEO content writing services.

Titan Growth staff uses their deep knowledge of Google search to increase organic traffic and revenue, according to a California winery marketing manager that hired the firm in 2021. This is just one of dozens of delighted clients who sang the agency’s praises in online reviews.

As a large agency, Titan Growth can afford to attract and retain top marketing talent, unlike newer agencies that rely on small-time freelancers, such as Growth Machine SEO. That’s an indicator of consistent web copy quality, as every new freelancer hire can be a bit of a gamble.

Due to its large size and broad range of marketing services, Titan Growth is best suited to SMBs and corporate enterprises with ambitious growth goals. If you’ve got a budget in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, this is the SEO agency to grow your traffic.

2. Netpeak: 4.9/5

Best for Conversion-Focused Copy

Netpeak
4.9
Pricing $30-$70 an hour
Quick overview

Netpeak is a technology-focused digital marketing agency based in Eastern Europe, the UK, and the US. In 2016, the agency branched from sister company Netpeak Software, developer of a highly-rated SEO tool called Netpeak Spider.

Pros

Excellent technical capabilities

Multilingual (English, Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian)

Clients include: TripAdvisor, Vodafone and L'Oréal

Cons

Price tag is not light

Your team must commit to an active partnership

Netpeak’s SEO experts undertake a technical audit of your business’ website(s) – plus detailed competitor keyword analysis – before producing content for you. This way, you’ll get a raft of blog articles aimed at your specific audience. It’s a much smarter approach than simply guessing what your customers want, and thereby wasting your marketing budget in the process.

Its team’s breadth of experience includes optimizing sales conversion for ecommerce (online shopping) websites. A unique benefit of hiring Netpeak is its multilingual capabilities, with team members fluent in English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Bulgarian. This is far better than relying on Google translate to reach your overseas markets.

Due to its technical prowess, Netpeak is better suited to working with medium-sized businesses with significant potential for online growth. So, if you’re a smaller startup, a one-man-band or sole trader, then you’re probably better off partnering with Boostability than Netpeak.

A potential limitation to working with Netpeak is the amount of effort you’ll need to put in to understand how SEO works. According to customer reviews, your team needs to collaborate actively with Netpeak, responding to their suggestions with follow-up work.

Competition is growing for ecommerce revenue; hire an SEO to give your business better visibility

3. Scorpion: 4.8/5

Best for Local Services Copywriting

Scorpion Logo

Quick overview

Scorpion provides SEO and content marketing for local businesses including home services, healthcare providers, and law firms. Their clients have access to a proprietary dashboard for easy campaign monitoring.

Pros

Staff are hard-working and approachable

Proprietary monitoring dashboard

Cons

Specialist copywriting needs double-checking

Scorpion’s happy customers praised the team’s marketing expertise, friendly demeanor, and commitment to growing their companies. Conveniently, the agency will manage your website and take ownership of lead generation, going above and beyond mere copywriting.

The agency generally works with home services providers, such as plumbers, landscapers, roofers, as well as legal firms. Given its high levels of customer satisfaction from these demographics, we confidently recommend Scorpion for local SEO copywriting services.

Unfortunately, one unhappy law firm client expressed dissatisfaction with the quality and accuracy of Scorpion’s family law content writing in November 2022. Yet, the majority of Scorpion’s online reviews are glowing. For that reason, we recommend you give any specialist content a double-check before continuing to work with Scorpion.

Another downside is a small business owner felt left out in the cold with less transparency than they’d hoped for, according to another November 2022 online review. It seems companies hoping for regular two-way catch-ups would be better off with Titan Growth than Scorpion.

Remember your website isn’t the only place you’ll need high quality text for. Email marketing is a top tactic for reselling to existing customers – and convincing lukewarm ones to buy. Consider asking your copywriting agency if they’ll craft email content for you as well.

We can suggest website builder platforms that work well with this kind of marketing strategy. For instance, IONOS includes an email inbox with their website subscription package. Check out our IONOS review for more information.

4. Big Leap: 4.7/5

Best for Tone of Voice

Quick overview

Utah-based Big Leap is a broad-service digital marketing agency, with specialist teams in SEO, reputation management and conversion rate optimization. Their clients are mainly in ecommerce, Saas, home services, and healthcare.

Pros

Team showed sensitivity to clients' needs

Technical fixes as well as content services

Deeply knowledgeable about SEO

Cons

Some clients felt communication was spotty

Deadlines sometimes missed

After carrying out a content audit, Big Leap will produce a range of lead magnets to develop your brand’s web presence, creating blog posts, quizzes, infographics, white papers, and e-books. Such high-quality assets will attract targeted web traffic to your business sites: the exact boost your SEO needs.

Clients praised Big Leap’s ability to sensitively handle their brand’s tone of voice. SEO experts from Big Leap worked to correct misinformation about divisive social issues with an effective content strategy, according to the 2021 review of a non-profit’s marketing director.

A mattress brand that worked with Big Leap over several years also highlighted the agency’s skill in brand voice creation. This shows the breadth of the agency’s capability across market sectors. If you’re looking to hone your company’s likeability through personalized copywriting, Big Leap is therefore more suitable than Titan Growth.

On the negative side, a couple of online reviewers pointed out issues with project management in 2018 and 2020. Specifically, that some deadlines were missed and communication was not always robust.

What's the Cost of Hiring an SEO Expert In-House?

The average annual salary for an SEO Content Writer and Project Manager is $60,000. Glassdoor puts the average SEO Content Writer salary at $50,000 in 2022. Remember, that doesn’t include the cost of subscriptions to SEO audit tools, such as Screaming Frog, Semrush, and Ahrefs. SEO is also a very competitive hiring market.

5. Boostability: 4.6/5

Best for small businesses

Boostability
4.6

Quick overview

Boostability carries out SEO services for small businesses, unlike Titan Growth and Netpeak which cater to larger companies. Their proprietary keyword-tracking platform may not be as powerful as Google Analytics or Semrush, but it shows the agency's commitment to data-driven SEO.

Pros

Specifically geared towards smaller businesses

Transparent results reporting

Cons

Keyword-tracking technology not the most powerful on the market

Providing on-page and off-page SEO for small businesses, Boostability has proven to be a reliable agency for dozens of happy clients across the US. Examples of clients include: restaurants, personal services, real estate, educational facilities, dental practices, and other healthcare providers. If you’re in any of these industries, you could see improved website traffic with Boostability’s SEO content creation.

Client testimonials mention it was easy to understand how and why Boostability worked to improve their organic search traffic. Account managers could fluently explain SEO concepts to clients. This is essential for a successful SEO partnership because search engine algorithms are fiendishly complex and ever-changing. This leads us to conclude Boostability is more transparent than Scorpion, which provides SEO for local services.

Boostability customers also appreciate the ability to track keyword rankings using the company’s proprietary dashboard. Such technology is common among SEO agencies today, but it’s still a good sign of technological expertise within the team.

An insurer noted in a 2018 customer review that Boostability didn’t seem to grasp the hyperlocal market of their business. Rather, Boostability seemed better geared towards reaching metropolitan audiences. Therefore, we recommend Boostability for small business owners in large towns and cities.

Of course, you should be aware that hiring cheap is not always a cost-effective solution. If you go with a less experienced copywriter, the time you spend correcting their work may not be worth the investment. If you’re curious, we’ve produced a dedicated guide on the cost of SEO.

Is SEO the same as content writing?
SEO (search engine optimization) is a set of techniques to increase the likelihood of your website appearing on the search engine results page (SERP) for certain queries. Content writing can certainly form part of your SEO strategy, but the former is only a small part of the latter.

Writing fresh, useful content, such as “how to” guides, movie reviews, or fashion blogs can funnel search engine users to your website. Producing numerous, well-written articles on topics relevant to your particular niche will help your website build authority over time. This is crucial for your SEO success because search engine bots actually scan your website and give it a score depending on how authoritative it appears to be. The more useful your content, and the higher your domain authority, the more likely your site is to rank above competitors in SERPs.

If your content is so good that other high-quality websites are linking to various articles on your site, that’s another win for your SEO.

Is content writing necessary for SEO?
Yes, content writing is an essential pillar of your SEO strategy. But you can’t just publish any old article and expect it to boost your website traffic. According to Google, there are several factors that search engine bots use to decide whether your content is helpful:
  • It’s written by humans, not AI
  • It meets the user’s expectations (no clickbait)
  • No grammar or spelling mistakes
  • Demonstrates expertise in the topic

Search engines like Google are wise to any tricks that try to “game the system” and will penalize websites that try to take shortcuts, such as paying for bots to artificially create web traffic. You should also avoid “keyword stuffing”, which means repeating certain phrases pointlessly throughout a page in the hopes that a search engine will interpret that as useful. It won’t.

Should I use AI to generate content for my website?
You can, but it would be a high-risk strategy. In April 2022, Google’s John Mueller made it clear that automatically generated content, such as articles written by machine learning (AI) bots, goes against the Webmaster Guidelines. It’s considered spam.

However, matters are complicated by Google when it admitted that it cannot always tell when content is written by a human or a machine. As AI technology improves, large language models, such as Open.Ai’s ChatGPT, Huawei’s Pangu Alpha, and Microsoft’s Turing NLG, are becoming smarter by the day.

Typically, such content generators spit out fluid sentences, paragraphs, and whole articles. However, the information in these articles is only as up to date as the bot’s training materials, and cannot be updated after its creation. So, if you’re using a program built in 2021 to write articles relevant in 2024, you’re going to have to hope the world hasn’t changed at all in that time. Which is unlikely, to say the least.
