Radius Telematic Review: Features on Kinesis

Radius Telematics’ fleet management platform is called Kinesis and positions itself as a mid-market alternative to the likes of Verizon Connect, Samsara, and Teletrac Navman. Let’s see what features it has to offer and how it stacks up by comparison.

Live map

On logging in, Radius has 10 broad categories to dive into, with Live Map being the first one listed. It overlays Google Maps data with real-time GPS positions for every tracked vehicle and asset on your account:

  • Status icons: Distinct symbols differentiate moving, idling and stationary vehicles, allowing a dispatcher to grasp fleet activity at a glance.
  • Searchable list pane: The left-hand panel lists assets by registration and (where assigned) driver name. A search bar accelerates look-ups without manual scrolling.
  • Map customisation: A style selector offers Road, Satellite, Hybrid and Terrain layers, while check-boxes enable live traffic overlays and Points of Interest.
  • Context actions: Clicking a vehicle icon opens an information card with one-click links to or buttons for:
    • Trip History replay for the current or any prior day.
    • Estimated Time of Arrival to the next job or waypoint.
    • Google Street View of the present location.
    • Driver Performance metrics for that individual.

I found the interface looked pretty clean and is reportedly responsive, requiring little training for office staff. Functionally, it aligns with most other fleet management software, including our highest-rated option in Verizon Connect’s Reveal map: both supply status colour-coding, live traffic, and street-level context. Both also offer a 30-second refresh interval, which should be speedy enough for most fleet managers.

Trip history and route playback

Radius’s Trip History module is designed for retrospective analysis rather than live dispatch. Selecting a date (or range) and a single driver or vehicle generates a chronological list of every journey completed in that period. Key elements include:

Clicking Play opens a full-screen map that re-creates the route step-by-step. Event icons appear at the exact point on the road where the behaviour occurred, while a progress bar allows manual scrubbing forwards or backwards.

For incident investigation, the tool lets you confirm driver location and speed within about one minute of opening the report, substantially faster than exporting raw GPS logs to Excel. Likewise, planners could compare the actual route with the expected one to refine future scheduling or highlight unnecessary detours.

These route review and replay features are fairly standard in 2025. The likes of RAM Tracking offer a similar daily “timeline” grid that shows several drivers side-by-side. Radius focuses on one driver or vehicle at a time, which is arguably simpler but less suited to multi-vehicle pattern spotting. Meanwhile, Verizon integrates these replays with dash cam footage and street view, which Radius lacks.

For most SME and mid-size UK fleets, the level of insight provided by Radius’s Trip History will be sufficient to evidence compliance, coach drivers and refine routes. Enterprises seeking video-integrated or AI-assisted analytics may still favour Samsara or Teletrac Navman TN360, but those platforms command higher licence fees and longer contract terms.

Driver performance and safety analytics

Radius Telematics includes a dedicated Driver Performance workspace that collates safety-related metrics into one screen. The layout mirrors a managerial dashboard rather than a raw data dump, which expedites weekly or monthly reviews. Key elements are as follows:

  • Performance dials: Five circular gauges headline the page (Overall Score, Speeding, Harsh Acceleration, Harsh Braking, Harsh Cornering). Each dial shows the current score out of 100 and the cumulative number of events. Colour conventions follow the standard green-amber-red traffic-light system, allowing supervisors to spot risk areas immediately.
  • Driver table: Beneath the gauges sits a sortable grid displaying all active drivers with columns for:
    • Overall Driver Score
    • Driver Name
    • Vehicle Registration
    • Number of Trips
    • Distance Travelled (miles)
    • “Detailed Events” play-button, which opens a chronological list of infractions (and linked dash-cam footage where a camera is installed). Rows are softly colour-banded in line with the driver’s score, so under-performers surface naturally without manual filtering.
  • Views and exports: Three sub-tabs (Summary, Graph and Score Settings) allow users to toggle between table, trend graph and weighting configuration. CSV and PDF export options are available from the page header, supporting quarterly board reporting or insurance submissions.
  • Video integration: The leading column shows a miniature camera icon where footage exists. Clicking the icon jumps directly to the relevant video.

We’d say a fleet manager should be able to isolate a problematic driver quickly based on these features. For instance, as the below image shows, the amber Driver Score of 65 (Speeding) saw Megan Hall flagged for coaching, while Hannah King’s green-banded 75 confirmed acceptable behaviour. Meanwhile, event-linked video clips should reduce investigation time.

Still, it’s worth noting that Radius only takes five indicators into account for its safety score. Our favourite option for driver safety scores is Teletrac Navman TN360, which has at least eight indicators considered at any one time. That includes fatigue modelling, which isn’t considered in Radius’s assessment.

Geofencing and alerts

Radius groups its location-based controls under two linked modules: Geofences (the boundary builder) and Alerts (the notification engine). Together they provide proactive oversight of site visits, unauthorised movements and after-hours usage.

Creating a Geofence

  1. Draw and name: In the Geofences workspace, you can draw either a circle (select centre-point, drag radius) or a free-form polygon directly on the map, then assign a descriptive label (e.g. “Manchester DC – Goods In”).
  2. Assign assets: A tick-box list lets you apply the fence to all vehicles or a specific subgroup.
  3. Time windows: Optional schedules restrict monitoring to working hours or weekends. Multiple windows per day are supported without extra configuration.
  4. Save and colour-code: Each fence appears on the Live Map in its chosen colour, making depot, customer and high-risk zones visually distinct.

In practice, the whole process should take very little time per location and does not require GIS knowledge, comparable to Verizon Connect’s Reveal workflow and noticeably faster than the multi-step wizard used by Teletrac Navman TN360.

Configuring alerts

The Alerts centre uses a single screen to tie trigger conditions (geofence entry/exit, speeding, harsh events) to delivery channels:

  • Email: One or many recipients
  • SMS/push: Via the Radius mobile app
  • On-screen pop-up: For logged-in dispatchers

For geofence breaches, you can set separate rules for any­time movements (theft detection) and for out-of-hours weekday movements (misuse monitoring).

Radius also permits stacking multiple triggers. For instance, “exit Geofence A and speed > 70mph”. This isn’t something possible in RAM Tracking’s simplified alert set.

Reporting and analytics

Radius Telematics packages its data outputs under Standard Reports, which is supported by a bespoke report service for atypical requirements.

Standard reports

The Standard Reports console provides an at-a-glance list of pre-built templates covering utilisation, idling, mileage splits (business versus private), zone visits and basic maintenance intervals. Running a report is a three-step routine:

  • Scope: Choose individual vehicles, predefined groups or the entire fleet.
  • Period: Select any date span – the calendar accepts single days through to multi-month ranges.
  • Output: Click Generate for an on-screen table or export directly to CSV/PDF for further analysis.

For users with niche metrics (e.g. subcontractor-only mileage), Radius offers a “Request bespoke report” link to carry these out.

Again, many of these reports are expected, though you’ll find greater depth and extent to them elsewhere. Verizon Connect Reveal exposes more categories (eight) and permits self-service formula editing, while Samsara favours dashboard widgets rather than static tables.

An example of a useful report is Radius’s Speeding Report, which focuses solely on excess-speed events. Users pick a threshold band – >20%, >30% or >50% above the posted limit – alongside the date range. The resulting document lists each infringement with:

  • The driver’s name and vehicle registration
  • Time, location and posted limit
  • Actual speed and % above limit
  • Cumulative count per driver

These types of single-purpose reports should prove valuable for monthly insurance audits: underwriters could see both frequency and severity in a format requiring no further manipulation. Verizon Connect and Teletrac Navman offer user-defined speed thresholds in 1mph increments, but Radius’ three-band model meets the thresholds most UK insurers stipulate for premium rebate schemes.

Export and scheduling

Every report, including the speeding example, presents export buttons for CSV and PDF. CSV files opened cleanly in Excel without the delimiter issues that occasionally plague RAM Tracking outputs. Users can also schedule recurring emails (daily, weekly or monthly), a capability Quartix restricts to its higher-tier plans.

Geo-Plus and fuel-card integration

Geo-Plus is Radius’s built-in safeguard against fuel card fraud. Each card is paired with a specific vehicle; when the card is used, the platform immediately cross-checks the transaction postcode against the vehicle’s live GPS position and verifies that the volume purchased could realistically fit the tank.

If the truck is nowhere near the forecourt, the wrong card is presented, or the fill exceeds capacity, Geo-Plus fires an instant email/SMS alert and logs the event for audit.

This is a unique feature, as far as we are aware, as none of the major UK rivals (Verizon Connect, Samsara, Teletrac Navman, Quartix or RAM Tracking) deliver this closed-loop verification out of the box. In most cases, you must bolt on a third-party fuel-card API and accept a delay before data appears.

By baking the check directly into its telematics stack, Radius gives finance teams real-time visibility of suspect transactions, cuts manual reconciliation work and provides a concrete deterrent against side-tank fill-ups or card sharing.

Dash cams and video evidence

Radius supplies an optional dash camera that feeds footage directly into the platform’s Video Library. From this screen managers can:

  • Live-stream the camera to see events unfolding in real-time (bandwidth permitting)
  • Request clips from a specified time window or incident marker
  • Download MP4 files for insurance or disciplinary use

The clip request process involves selecting the vehicle, picking a start and end time, and thereafter, seeing the footage appear in the library once the unit has uploaded it over the cellular link.

Each peripheral reports into the same Radius dashboard, so temperature excursions, unauthorised trailer moves or overdue tacho files appear alongside standard vehicle events.

Competitors also cover these needs, although not always in their entirety. Samsara offers temperature monitoring probes but relies on third-party tachograph software. Teletrac Navman supplies remote tacho but no cold-chain sensors. Verizon Connect provides both, yet typically at a higher hardware price point and with longer lead times.

Radius supplements its web dashboard with a family of free-to-download mobile apps, all available on both iOS and Android. The line-up lets dispatchers, managers and drivers stay connected to live data without returning to the office.

Kinesis

Targeted at small and mid-size fleets, the standard Kinesis app surfaces the same essentials you see on the web, including live vehicle locations, driver-behaviour scores, geofence alerts and basic reports. Push notifications arrive the moment an asset breaches a geofence or triggers a speeding or harsh-event rule, allowing owner-operators to react in real-time.

Kinesis Pro

Designed for larger fleets and rental operators, Kinesis Pro adopts a denser, web-style layout that shows more vehicles and KPIs per screen. The extra context is useful when one dispatcher oversees dozens of assets, while the underlying alert logic mirrors the standard Kinesis app.

This separate download gives individual drivers visibility of their own metrics:

  • Business versus private mileage split
  • Trip history with route maps
  • Safety-event logs and performance score
  • Live ETA on current jobs

Because the driver can see and act on behaviour flags immediately, safety coaching can become a quick, on-the-road exercise to check in with (rather than as a drawn-out meeting, for instance).

It does lack the AI-enhanced in-cab driver coaching found in Samsara’s or Verizon Connect’s mobile suites, however.

Radius Velocity

Radius lists headline guide rates on its UK pricing page:

Radius vs Verizon Connect

Verizon Connect still offers the broadest tool set on the UK market. That includes advanced features Radius can’t match, such as automatic route optimisation (based on driver behaviour or even the weather), job dispatching, predictive maintenance, in-cab driver alertsextensive reporting options and 360° camera support – but it demands a long 36-month commitment and ~£35 per vehicle, per month, pricing.

Radius cannot yet match Verizon’s machine-learning dashboards, yet at roughly a third of the cost and with contracts capped at two years, it suits fleets prioritising cashflow flexibility over bleeding-edge analytics.

Radius vs RAM Tracking

RAM is Radius’ nearest competitor on pure cost, historically dipping to £8.99 per vehicle. RAM’s timeline replay and generous trial terms appeal to micro fleets. We also liked that it includes maintenance records for fleet vehicles, unlike Radius. Yet it refreshes data every 60 seconds and omits route optimisation (like Radius).

Radius doubles the refresh rate, bundles asset beacons and offers Geo-Plus, which could be materially more capable for a marginal price premium depending on your needs.
