Expert verdict FAQ Expand Volatile petrol prices are a great reason to find ways to cut your business fuel spend. One way to do this is only filling up at supermarket forecourts, as these typically sell fuel at around 3p less than the national average price. In the same way that Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons have allied themselves to fuel card companies in order that drivers can use those companies' fuel cards to pay for petrol and diesel at their forecourts, Asda has linked up with Allstar so that your team can use Allstar's Supermarket+ Fuel Card to buy Asda fuel. At the moment, Allstar is the only company to offer a fuel card accepted at Asda forecourts. So, in this article, we take a closer look at the Allstar Supermarket+ Fuel Card to see what benefits it offers to Asda fans. We also look at an excellent alternative, fuelGenie's fuel card, which is worth investigating if you're keen to use supermarket fuel stations, but aren't set on Asda.Looking for a fuel card but don't know which one you need? You get the first six month's free, and then you only pay £1.50 per card per month. This is great value for small businesses with only a couple of vehicles, but not the best option if you've got 50 or more cars on circuit.Businesses with more than a couple of cars may be better off with fuelGenie's card as it has no costs at all. On top of that, Allstar's mobile app doesn't show you the price of fuel at petrol stations, whereas fuelGenie's does. So you're left guessing where the best petrol deal is. For that reason it's lost points in our review because that's a really useful feature which competitors provide. That said, Allstar is accepted at more supermarkets than fuelGenie, so if your drivers are used to topping up at Asda, they should pick Allstar. It's also the better option for fleets which run on diesel fuel, as Allstar gives better access to discounts. What type of fuel do you use? But that's not much of a price to pay for a line of business credit with no fees at all.Unlike Allstar's supermarket card, you can't use fuelGenie's at Asda. But you can still use it at Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's across the UK. And yes, you can collect supermarket loyalty points so long as you remember to scan your card (or digital barcode) when you pay. Unlike Allstar Supermarket+ or fuelGenie, Texaco's Fastfuel card gives you the chance to save some serious cash. How? You'll get a weekly fixed price on petrol and diesel (which the company refers to as “wholesale”), meaning it should be a bit cheaper than standard pump pricing. You can also buy oil and car wash services, though there's no discount on these. This card gives you much better reporting and monitoring than Allstar Supermarket+, and you can use it at supermarkets: Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Co-Op and Tesco. Texaco has slightly more refuelling points in its network than Allstar, and has the advantage over its competitor for being accepted at certain motorway service stations.Unlike fuelGenie, however, Texaco's Fastfuel card has some monthly charges. We had a hard time nailing UK Fuels (the card provider) on the price of the Texaco Fastfuel card. We could only find a vague reference to an “account service charge” which is charged weekly.
