Who is Intuit?

Intuit’s TurboTax is the software that almost manages to make filing end-of-year tax returns sound exciting. Mint is their personal finance app that promises to do what its name suggests – help you make a mint. And, of course, there’s QuickBooks, the time-saving accounting software used by more than a million small businesses.

Of course, great branding says more about a company’s marketing team than it does about their products and services. And when it comes to choosing a field service management solution for your business, you should be laser-focused on the latter.

So here’s the real question: does Intuit make payroll, personal finance and accounting more intuitive? We tested Intuit’s field service management solutions for ourselves to find out.

What are the Intuit Features and Benefits?

 Work Order Scheduling

In an era of obnoxious banner ads and intrusive pop ups, we think there’s something to be said for a stripped back user experience. Intuit’s on the same wavelength. Drag-and-drop work order assignment means you can do away with manual data entry for good. Technician running late to a customer appointment? No problem. Just swap their name on the work dispatch board for someone else’s.

 Route Planning

Customer cancellations and traffic jams are common occurrences, but with the right field service software, they shouldn’t upset your operation.

With Intuit route planning, you can spot shortcuts and send updated route information to your field service techs in real time. Your drivers get directions straight to the service address via the mobile app.

 Employee Time Logging (add on)

Payroll management shouldn’t induce panic, and with Intuit, it won’t. This clever module captures your staff’s hours directly from their mobile phones, cutting the time you spend processing time sheets at the end of the month.

The software calculates paychecks and tax contributions for you, and with seamless QuickBooks integration, you’ll be on the money every time.

 Preventative Maintenance (add on)

Nothing sours relationships quicker than losing track of ongoing contractual obligations towards your customers.

Intuit’s preventative maintenance features help you manage these arrangements with ease. The system alerts you to upcoming appointments so you can assign the right resources for the job.

The result is a fleet management workflow that runs more smoothly than ever. You’re guaranteed to keep your customers happy and your liabilities low.

 Mobile Support

Intuit provides free iOS and Android apps which, frankly, are a godsend. From the home screen, you can see each technician’s daily assignments, job status, and complete job details. Techs can also invoice and accept payments through the app, so you can bill customers and get paid faster.

That said, neither app works without an active subscription to the parent software. There’s also no in-app instant messaging, though Intuit may add this feature in a later update. Top stuff.

 QuickBooks Integrations

Unless you still prepare your financial statements on parchment, you’ll at the very least have heard of Intuit’s flagship bookkeeping software. What you might not know is that Intuit’s field service suite integrates seamlessly with QuickBooks.

Intuit Field Service Management for QuickBooks features include:

  • Contract management – say goodbye to end-of-the-month payroll stress
  • Merchant services support – smooth payment processing
  • Advanced inventory management – stay on top of stock levels and equipment locations

How Can Intuit Help My Business?

As you might imagine from the impressive array of features, Intuit field service management software stands out for several reasons. Here are the three biggest benefits for small businesses.

Improve First-Time Fix Rates

With instant access to customer, inventory, and personnel information in one place, technicians can get the job right the first time.

Eliminate Paperwork Hassles

Say goodbye to paperwork errors, duplication, and lost paperwork. Your field technicians can capture customer signatures and photos in the field.

Boost Efficiency

With better tracking comes better routing and improved accountability. On-site payment processing through QuickBooks merchant services integration reduces the time it takes to get paid for work that’s already been completed.

Who Can Intuit Help?

Intuit focuses on serving traditional service businesses. If your outfit does any of the following, you should definitely consider their field service management solutions:

  • Electrical repair work
  • Plumbing
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • On-site repair work
  • Pool maintenance
  • Appliance repair work (garage doors, sprinklers, etc)
  • Medical equipment maintenance
  • Alarm and security installations

On the other hand, industries for which Intuit is less suited include:

  • Non-profit work
  • Retail
  • Property management
  • Utilities

If your business requires fleet management in tandem with field service management, you should look into companies like Verizon that offer both.

How Much Does Intuit Cost?

Pricing for Intuit software is on a per user / per month basis. Active QuickBooks Enterprise Full Service Plan users receive a $35 per month discount on their overall Intuit Field Service Management subscription. The number of users for the time card and preventative maintenance add-on modules will be the same as the number of users on the core service. So, if your business has 25 users, the add-on pricing will apply to all 25 of those users.
