The Chevron and Texaco Business Card is touted as being suitable for fleets of all shapes and sizes. Since it's only accepted at Texaco and Chevron stations and doesn't have some of the added features of the other cards shown, it's better suited to smaller fleets, and fleets operating within a relatively small area.

The Chevron and Texaco Diesel Advantage Card is good for fleets that run entirely on diesel, and whose service area often takes them out of reach of the Chevron/Texaco network. Qualified customers earn rebates of five cents on the gallon in addition to wholesale pricing for diesel (at Chevron and Texaco stations). And as a member of P-Fleet's CFN/Fuelman network, the Chevron/Texaco Diesel Advantage Card is accepted in 48 states.

The Chevron and Texaco Universal Business Card is valid anywhere that MasterCard is accepted, making it an excellent option not only for long-haul fleets, but also for mixed (gas/diesel) fleets that cannot take advantage of the Diesel Advantage card. It offers the same rebates as Diesel Advantage, and includes the ability to restrict the types of locations at which the card can be used, thereby preventing wasteful or fraudulent use.

Find a Chevron or Texaco Station

Finding a Chevron or Texaco station can be challenging. Part of this is because many of both chains' stations were acquired by Shell as they pulled out of markets on the Eastern Seaboard and the Midwest. Now, Chevron and Texaco stations are to be found mainly in the Gulf states, the Southwest, and on the West Coast.

Google Maps isn't much help in this regard, since many stations in the Northeast that once belonged to one brand or the other now operate under other brands (Lukoil, Shell, et al.), or as off-brand distributors. The Chevron and Texaco apps (Android and iOS, both free) have received complaints for the same reason: drivers are going out of their way to find Chevron or Texaco stations that no longer exist. Your GPS or navigation app, unless it's been updated recently, may have the same problem.

The most up-to-date information can be found on the Chevron and Texaco websites. Even that experience can be frustrating, since the map is small relative to the size of the screen. Worse still, there are only two options available: to search within a 25-mile radius of a ZIP code, or to use a point-to-point trip planner. The latter does show your options en route, but that may not be helpful if your route changes unexpectedly or if your navigation is erratic.

Pros and Cons

Location concerns aside, there's a lot to like about the Chevron and Texaco Business Card program. Especially attractive is the degree of control and customization offered; some of the features available on the basic Business Card are only available on higher tiers of other companies' services. The feature set and benefits are competitive, and two of the three cards offer coverage throughout the lower 48, though you won't get full perks and benefits (discounts and wholesale pricing) at non-Chevron/Texaco stations.

Conclusion

Chevron and Texaco stations could once be found from coast to coast. That's no longer the case; the brand, at least from a retail standpoint, has devolved to a regional player. If that region happens to be where you do all or most of your business, the Chevron and Texaco Business card will be a good fit. If, on the other hand, your fleet often ventures to the parts of the US and Canada where Chevron and Texaco stations are but a distant memory, a Diesel Advantage or Universal card might prove a safer bet.
