Hasler Postage Meters

Hasler's history in the US market stretches back nearly one hundred years. They are one of only five businesses authorized to supply postage meters by the United States Postal Service (USPS). They provide postage meters for business of all sizes, from small businesses mailing just a handful of items a day to large companies with high demand mail rooms that need the capacity to mail over 15,000 items per hour.

Although it was acquired in 2002 by Neopost (and the company uses re-badged Neopost machines), the company's dealer network, which provides sales, supplies and services to companies across the United States, is distinct from Neopost. Its suite of applications is also developed in-house, further differentiating them from their parent company.

Low Volume Postage Machines for Small Business

Hasler WJ20

The WJ20 is designed for the smallest office but its compact design still allows it to process up to 20 letters per minute.

Overall Rating:

The WJ20 measures just 12.2 inches (l) x 8.3 inches (w) x 7.5 inches (h) and weighs just 6.5 lbs. As well as printing the postage mark on your items, it can also print your logo and up to 2 custom messages to your customers.

The WJ20 provides for postage refills through TotalFunds® and uses a SmartCard to keep up with rate changes and message uploads. Printouts of postage usage and spending can be obtained from the machine for better cost controls. The exact cost of leasing a WJ20 will depend on the length of lease your business enters into, but it is typically priced at under $25 per month.

Hasler IM280

The Hasler IM280 processes up to 18 letters per minute via manual feed, with nine job imprint memories, imprint and text message personalization, one department standard (up to ten may be added), iMeter™ apps compatibility, diagnostics and more.

Overall Rating:

The Hasler IM280 measures 12.5" x 8.8" x 7.6", it's capable of handling media between 3.5" x 5" and 12" x 15" with a maximum thickness of 5/16" in either landscape or portrait orientation. The integrated two pound scale can be upgraded to five pounds. Connectivity is provided via a direct LAN connection, iMeter™ USB, or phone line (the latter is optional).

Hasler IM330

The IM330 is a semi-automatic machine that processes up to 35 LPM, and includes ten standard accounts. It's easy to learn and use, and gives its users access to more than 140 USPS services and rates as well as saving money on Priority and Express Mail.

Overall Rating:

Like the IM280, the IM330 features the choice of a 2 lb or 5 lb integrated weighing platform, and is compatible with the full range of Hasler iMeter apps, including electronic signature, certified mail and delivery receipt services. Account management can be handled easily online.

Hasler IN360

With its 45 letter per minute (lpm) maximum processing speed, the IN360 is at the faster end of the low-volume spectrum. It offers 30 standard accounts with the option to upgrade to as many as 300, an integrated 5 pound scale with the option to upgrade to as much as a 70 pound capacity, full iMeter compatibility, custom text messages and ad slogans, logo and QR code printing for customer engagement, and shortcut keys that increase operator efficiency. In short, this may not be Hasler's fastest machine, but it is by no means a "light" solution.

Larger Machines by Hasler

Medium Volume

Hasler IN600 Series

Like their larger and faster counterparts, they're designed to match the pace of your business, helping you save time and money by handling mixed mail ranging from postcards to small packages.

Overall Rating:

Hasler's IN600 Series, comprised of the IN600 HF (Hand Feed) and IN600 AF (Automatic Feed) are targeted at businesses handling a moderate volume of mail and both machines can be expanded with add-ons and peripherals.

Higher Volume

Hasler IN700 Series

The IN700 Series bridges the gap between the medium-volume IN600 series and the fully-fledged high-speed mailing systems represented by the IM5000, IN6000 and WJ PRO.

Overall Rating:

The IN700 processes 140 LPM to the IN750's 175 LPM.

Both handle a moderately high volume of mixed mail, offering the ability to use inline weighing to keep things moving. As with the 600 series, the addition of conveyor/stackers, openers and other peripherals can expand functionality and efficiency even further.

High Volume: Hasler WJ PRO

On paper, the WJ PRO is slower than the IM6000. The former processes 15,000 pieces of mixed mail per hour, while the latter processes up to 18,000. However, the WJ PRO is designed with a shorter mail path, ensuring rapid and jam-free transit of mixed media. It's also designed so that it processes at a consistent speed.

Higher uptime, dynamic media thickness adjustment, a capacious ink reservoir that can be refilled without interrupting print jobs, and vastly improved uptime mean that the WJ PRO delivers performance out of proportion to its much smaller size.

Highest Volume: Hasler IM5000 and IM6000

Hasler IM5000

To call the IM5000 and IM6000 postage machines is to sell them short; they are nothing less than the backbone of any extreme-volume postage operation.

Overall Rating:

Hasler IM6000

The Hasler IM6000 is one of the most modern and most advanced postage meters on the market today. With an integrated touchscreen monitor, it's as easy to use as it is powerful.

Overall Rating:

The IM5000 and IM6000 were designed with significant input from their prospective users, and the end results -- a combination of size, unmatched ergonomics, durability, modular construction, and blazing speed -- attest to how closely that advice was heeded. For all that, it's remarkably easy to use without sacrificing its effectiveness.

Software

In recent years, Hasler has replaced its Bulk Mailer Business, DCS Mailroom Plus and Global Lite software with a series of apps designed to help small businesses get even more out of their Hasler postage meters, and to streamline mail operations for small businesses and high-volume mailrooms alike. These include:

  • Online Advantage: Simplifies ordering of supplies and postage, allowing budgeting month-by-month or year-over-year.
  • Commercial Rates App: Lets businesses take advantage of commercial rate postage discounts up to 5% off retail.
  • Remote Diagnostics App: Hasler's US-based service center can diagnose problems remotely to maximize uptime.
  • TotalFunds® App: Add postage on a rolling basis, invoiced and paid at the end of the month.
  • Online Postal Expense Manager™ App: Expanded reporting shows spending by department, postal class, and date, allowing you to optimize postal spend. Data can be viewed in graphic or spreadsheet form.
  • Hasler Postal Accountant App: Track and analyze processing activity for better allocation of resources, either for a single location or multiple sites.
  • E-Services App: Simplify tracking and delivery confirmation for outgoing mail while saving money. Alerts can be delivered to the mail sender or recipient alike.
  • E-Services with Electronic Return Receipt™ App: Eliminate paper forms in favor of electronic processing of certified and return receipt mail.
  • Postal Rates App: Automate rate change updates, service fees, and changes to postage zones to ensure rate and compliance accuracy.

Pricing

Federal law stipulates that postage meters can only be leased, not purchased. This is a security measure, since postage is treated the same as currency. When considering the cost of leasing a franking machine, one should take into account not only the cost of the meter, but also of inks and supplies, postage, and peripherals.

These costs should also be weighed against your business's current postage spend and the personnel hours spent on mail processing in order to accurately gauge savings. Typical costs begin at about $25.00 per month for a low-volume machine and escalate from there. Expert Market can help you to evaluate your business's needs in order to find the right Hasler machine.
