This article reviews BluePay and includes information about the services the company offers.

BluePay is part of the new breed of credit card processing companies. The company was set up in 2002 and is based in Illinois (Naperville, specifically). They offer full service merchant accounts for businesses of all types and sizes. They can set you up with everything from new style chip and pin terminals (soon to be rolled out across the United States) to virtual terminals and payment gateways.

BluePay is an average processor. There is nothing spectacular about the company or the way it approaches its business. There are some expensive elements to their contracts but the rates and fees they offer are good and few customers seem to be complaining about them which is a good sign.

The Verdict:

In terms of rates and fees, BluePay is pretty average. Their fees for online transactions are higher than we would like to see, but the debit and credit card rates are around the industry standard. It's worth mentioning that it is not easy to find this information, so BluePay need to work on being more open about their costs.

The biggest issue we have with BluePay is the cancellation fee they attach to their contracts as standard. It's bad enough being locked into a 3 year contract when there are better rates out there, so we don't think it is fair to make a merchant pay almost $300 to end it early.

There are some good things about BluePay though. They offer 24 hour customer support and have a BBB rating of A+, which suggests current clients are generally happy with the service they are getting. However, to attract more new business in what is now an incredibly competitive market, BluePay needs to do more.
